Description
Description: Although considered a prosperous city, Hong Kong has approximately 1,360,000 people living in poverty. Of those who are poor, one in three are elderly. Driven by the vision that everyone deserves a decent place to live, Habitat for Humanity began in 1976 as a grassroots effort in the United States. It has since grown into a leading global housing organisation, working in over 70 locations around the world. Habitat has helped more than 46 million people build or improve the place they call home. Habitat has been serving the local community in Hong Kong since 2004. Its mission is to bring people together to improve housing conditions, giving a hand up to people in need and strengthening communities to be more self-reliant and resilient. Their ‘Project Home Works’ programme fills a critical gap by providing de-cluttering, cleaning, repair, renovation and modification services for vulnerable elderly people living in public rental housing. We are recruiting volunteers to help clean households to improve the living environment of the vulnerable groups and allow them to live in a safe and healthy space. Volunteer Duties: Renovation/ceiling Service Location: Wang Tau Hom Estate, Lok Fu Remarks: - Please wear closed-toe shoes and long trousers - Please bring a hat, towels, and clothes for changing - Please prepare snacks and water. - A one-hour lunch break is included in the activity. There is a shopping mall next to the estate have many restaurant choices, volunteers are welcome to bring packed lunch and have it in the NGO centre indoor too. The Habitat is still confirming with their community partner for the exact serving location. We'll update the registration page once it's confirmed. All volunteers who attend this activity must be registered with HandsOn Hong Kong.
